Bad day for chickens on Dec 2 as many South Korean soccer fans enjoyed ChiMaek at midnight, watching the national team beat Portugal 2-1 with a dramatic 90th minute goal by Hwang Hee-chan to edge out Uruguay for the next round of 16. S.Koreans are proud that Qatar 2022 is S. Korea’s 10th consecutive World Cup since Mexico in 1986, a huge accomplishment that only five other soccer giants were able to do so.(Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Spain). S. Korea is also the only nation to reach the semi-final, 2002 World Cup, of all the Asian and African nations in World Cup history that started in Uruguay in 1930 where, believe it or not, the U.S.A went to the semi-final. S. Korea will square off against 5 times World Cup champion Brazil for a ticket to the quarter-final on Dec 6. </span></p><p style="background-color: white; color: #373737; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"></p><div class="separator" style="background-color: white; clear: both; color: #373737; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF4RtnwgkW9ynUHn0EmoBadrWkGPD7FQl-w3Ba55RlH1nbt2foY5NXFiNnatIyD5320_mrcRYIFjxP_hQeJR3P-xRLXb2rNj0etYticV7zrIFSsDB_kgd0clqu6sCQAiTiS4HLxVxtdCEPo1IVoHPyqe_KsVRa1yQhUYWN9Kbene44fj0gx0aPsXsDUQ/s497/unnamed.png" imageanchor="1" style="color: #4932cb; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-decoration-line: none;"><img border="0" data-original-height="451" data-original-width="497" height="174" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF4RtnwgkW9ynUHn0EmoBadrWkGPD7FQl-w3Ba55RlH1nbt2foY5NXFiNnatIyD5320_mrcRYIFjxP_hQeJR3P-xRLXb2rNj0etYticV7zrIFSsDB_kgd0clqu6sCQAiTiS4HLxVxtdCEPo1IVoHPyqe_KsVRa1yQhUYWN9Kbene44fj0gx0aPsXsDUQ/w192-h174/unnamed.png" style="background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); border-radius: 0px; border: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2) 0px 0px 0px; padding: 8px; position: relative;" width="192" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKQpT5Jk9sMtz2twwl3czXMmHFtbSjxla1-osvOc3mWd302SCpeRLuRlHCFdwqP3i7jzz_E2K79p27Iq-OK87MVAE-PKPcjHi-dLZHNDY6bw7_oeAA59LNHoIzLzG7_NVcNzfKUsXhUrFdQ-29UuZigCwmiE0DNM7vgOSdPD0C4PQN4tIGOSriJvzpNQ/s604/image.png" imageanchor="1" style="color: #4932cb; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-decoration-line: none;"><img border="0" data-original-height="591" data-original-width="604" height="172" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKQpT5Jk9sMtz2twwl3czXMmHFtbSjxla1-osvOc3mWd302SCpeRLuRlHCFdwqP3i7jzz_E2K79p27Iq-OK87MVAE-PKPcjHi-dLZHNDY6bw7_oeAA59LNHoIzLzG7_NVcNzfKUsXhUrFdQ-29UuZigCwmiE0DNM7vgOSdPD0C4PQN4tIGOSriJvzpNQ/w176-h172/image.png" style="background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); border-radius: 0px; border: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2) 0px 0px 0px; padding: 8px; position: relative;" width="176" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt4QrJ8DgZQl-uDrqd4Sbr82Wdd-RNYFPSmDB4A3vqTKLHkUEvaQfAxVog9VkRFQPkJgX_7uKIHBXIb9790dHwbryyKbQkAHfNqyWKENeO-5zCosyDjlC-WnjAgX257btRGY5xFWKdwAxiYQkcXupCJn55dgeurCGL5lGIP8ZHCH3aOiSeSSTHpwVg6w/s991/image%20(2).png" imageanchor="1" style="color: #4932cb; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-decoration-line: none;"><img border="0" data-original-height="991" data-original-width="850" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt4QrJ8DgZQl-uDrqd4Sbr82Wdd-RNYFPSmDB4A3vqTKLHkUEvaQfAxVog9VkRFQPkJgX_7uKIHBXIb9790dHwbryyKbQkAHfNqyWKENeO-5zCosyDjlC-WnjAgX257btRGY5xFWKdwAxiYQkcXupCJn55dgeurCGL5lGIP8ZHCH3aOiSeSSTHpwVg6w/w177-h207/image%20(2).png" style="background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); border-radius: 0px; border: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2) 0px 0px 0px; padding: 8px; position: relative;" width="177" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmu4Z_s0s56Ryj69QaY58ou2cHVk1bDJHSvJbs2p_PyMBwqilTd31Q2NBtx8kH7uxkXgsANeeMFWtPcy0Ol-4R0r0CdoTWnth0NDR3Tt8HL80RXVeNLVAb_aALdFQHu4ZKEDhPFKhp7xHD1NmqEGbVKSsY8jFTlqfFSy9H5CXKT6pJsIWX0uYQFlvxGQ/s896/image%20(1).png" imageanchor="1" style="color: #4932cb; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-decoration-line: none;"><img border="0" data-original-height="896" data-original-width="889" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmu4Z_s0s56Ryj69QaY58ou2cHVk1bDJHSvJbs2p_PyMBwqilTd31Q2NBtx8kH7uxkXgsANeeMFWtPcy0Ol-4R0r0CdoTWnth0NDR3Tt8HL80RXVeNLVAb_aALdFQHu4ZKEDhPFKhp7xHD1NmqEGbVKSsY8jFTlqfFSy9H5CXKT6pJsIWX0uYQFlvxGQ/w210-h211/image%20(1).png" style="background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); border-radius: 0px; border: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2) 0px 0px 0px; padding: 8px; position: relative;" width="210" /></a></div><br style="background-color: white; color: #373737; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;" /><div class="separator" style="background-color: white; clear: both; color: #373737; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; text-align: center;"><br /></div><span style="background-color: white; color: #373737; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">The S.Korean team has been coached by Paulo Bento, former Portuguese soccer star who played against S.Korea in the 2002 World Cup. A Halloween costumed crowd estimated at 100,000 was jam-packed in Itaewon district of 82,000 sq.m (20.2 acres) during Halloween revelry. People departing the area ran into people arriving in tightly packed alleyways around Hamilton Hotel. The crush occurred when a group chanted "push, push" to make their way, and the people in front fell. The slope on the narrow street next to Hamilton may have contributed to the disaster as people were sliding under the crowd, falling over each other and toppling like dominos. Most of the deceased were teenagers and people in their 20s, and there were 25 foreign victims. President Yoon Suk-yeol was at the scene the following day and declared a week of national mourning. This is the worst disaster in Korea since the Sewol Ship sink that claimed 304 lives in 2014.<br /><br /><br /> Itaewon has been known for its vibrant nightlife and shopping area for foreigners, and a hot spot for S.Koreans who come to feel American and international cultures since the U.S. 8th Army HQ was stationed there during the Korean War. With the relocation of the 8th Army HQ to Pyeongtaek a couple years ago and with the curse of Covid 19, the business in Itaewon has lost its reputation, and many hoped the first Halloween festival this week in three years without a mask would bring vibrancy to Itaewon. May the young victims rest in peace.<div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmQJFm25XC8VhpPLKPUW0Es9lF_37E341rOvAMJS0_FPp0A2II7xJSNQxdmSEBxIw9eWDfHVEleuLm7DgpY8d7OZ-KUzDdPn0yNi7nZtePjfl5jo4ZeIOartLcgZTjkmF7WToEDTUjVx3eO1g6PZHUWZbFsCtYO8sc8AawQtPKNyIGrbj2JNSedQ/s849/image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="849" data-original-width="685" height="390" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmQJFm25XC8VhpPLKPUW0Es9lF_37E341rOvAMJS0_FPp0A2II7xJSNQxdmSEBxIw9eWDfHVEleuLm7DgpY8d7OZ-KUzDdPn0yNi7nZtePjfl5jo4ZeIOartLcgZTjkmF7WToEDTUjVx3eO1g6PZHUWZbFsCtYO8sc8AawQtPKNyIGrbj2JNSedQ/w314-h390/image.png" width="314" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh725RRwfgJJBXDVWOAfVN46qLF41K5mYAqno2yCAhHVvKpmRwNJobOEDTuvqBtdl5QJYTrFXU4vCW92rh8UHKSFqE_lvi0t-J9TMTJZDG1OUXBjfNSF2mp71HkSqd8mbXIJxs4X9K2Px7L2bJeWN0GX65kca7-k-jA4VQzPrBzwKX7GIxnXqNUKA/s1271/image%20(1).png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="479" data-original-width="1271" height="197" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh725RRwfgJJBXDVWOAfVN46qLF41K5mYAqno2yCAhHVvKpmRwNJobOEDTuvqBtdl5QJYTrFXU4vCW92rh8UHKSFqE_lvi0t-J9TMTJZDG1OUXBjfNSF2mp71HkSqd8mbXIJxs4X9K2Px7L2bJeWN0GX65kca7-k-jA4VQzPrBzwKX7GIxnXqNUKA/w520-h197/image%20(1).png" width="520" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCCikpgM6UoewKEEhWkotjEIwKy_ZBmrtXs5AFILIO9N3aBGGE9ESYNWdGZBB830XH53jiK0B_czMc8orETxSzOco7YlE2SMDVXsgfeFIft7wStVz3tMEqFTysQkjqV413KpIy3UH7jFfPuXv9S0DuGss3YJ4XpbS7ELBsWVhMtpZYYNSimSnG6g/s1035/unnamed.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="857" data-original-width="1035" height="336" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCCikpgM6UoewKEEhWkotjEIwKy_ZBmrtXs5AFILIO9N3aBGGE9ESYNWdGZBB830XH53jiK0B_czMc8orETxSzOco7YlE2SMDVXsgfeFIft7wStVz3tMEqFTysQkjqV413KpIy3UH7jFfPuXv9S0DuGss3YJ4XpbS7ELBsWVhMtpZYYNSimSnG6g/w406-h336/unnamed.png" width="406" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div></div>Last Two Weekshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11862299586286090733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957664112680174584.post-48679832281924373142022-09-17T17:57:00.018+09:002022-09-17T18:00:18.873+09:00Last Two Weeks: South Korean defense industry goes into hey day<p> <span face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-size: small;">The S.Korean defense industry hit a jackpot to export tanks and howitzers to Poland as Hyundai Rotem and Hanwha Defense signed contracts with Poland to respectively supply 80 K-2 battle tanks, and 212 K-9 howitzers, which totals $5.76 billion. Korea Aerospace Industries is also in negotiation with Poland to ship 48 FA-50 supersonic jet fighters. S.Korea has now become the 6th largest exporter of arms and weapons in 2021, ahead of Italy and China, through a "More value for the money" sales approach to compete against main rivals. This success would not be possible without Vladimir Putin and Kim Jongun. Putin's recent invasion into Ukraine forced Poland to provide existing weapons to Ukraine and fill the vacuum with those from S.Korea. Kim's constant sabre-rattling has been prompting S.Korea to invest in the development and production of sophisticated, lethal and reliable weapons that have global competitiveness. </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBNRLTZ4N4KaKmDzdeJGzM6P7hB7Ov1ttFf-lj1UfDjxQFGN_td9QnBqI14ocSFmw7-QeHGqLYjMKn5fUS1FKBxRA9DwU0rLB8VGRwDtRnNTB3d2_L8ccIaTmdPx-oCKt89HjUfhFqZt1La0kmwDkv17XNbJ-9FaurECAMK9jBYvMlDGeb9DWH_A/s464/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="343" data-original-width="464" height="190" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBNRLTZ4N4KaKmDzdeJGzM6P7hB7Ov1ttFf-lj1UfDjxQFGN_td9QnBqI14ocSFmw7-QeHGqLYjMKn5fUS1FKBxRA9DwU0rLB8VGRwDtRnNTB3d2_L8ccIaTmdPx-oCKt89HjUfhFqZt1La0kmwDkv17XNbJ-9FaurECAMK9jBYvMlDGeb9DWH_A/w257-h190/1.png" width="257" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipXxdqBm77andweiza6M3h0igYBSIjRFbPzWDBR9QD_qbq2ijPxYq7If8mUzfKw1lFMRrwnfdgedj6nasKg5Dvo5su15HEnEz9KmHPDKBUkKsm7TUjjXpfHbPCbsvwI2vYK2eCUzwAX8hYh5lN6QgFlDUj9IHdgG9-ilCTOR4P1obpmu7M7A_Pfw/s676/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="316" data-original-width="676" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipXxdqBm77andweiza6M3h0igYBSIjRFbPzWDBR9QD_qbq2ijPxYq7If8mUzfKw1lFMRrwnfdgedj6nasKg5Dvo5su15HEnEz9KmHPDKBUkKsm7TUjjXpfHbPCbsvwI2vYK2eCUzwAX8hYh5lN6QgFlDUj9IHdgG9-ilCTOR4P1obpmu7M7A_Pfw/s320/2.png" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaHtS2C7BmKAFQcW8R6Y65x9IusFct96dhStHxM-tc-P4Szg0dUJwLGJbENxTCb89cHiLBSwjXpu2BIQ2PlwznwtRoAhoMr2LLbZpyfT1EhkkFPejAvs0NqJ6HmCkNEblC9QqRVFEFhua8qP0fiBQ7QlwdAuYdQlcUZuj1ALL5WjNCaApcBEXulw/s346/3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="345" data-original-width="346" height="254" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaHtS2C7BmKAFQcW8R6Y65x9IusFct96dhStHxM-tc-P4Szg0dUJwLGJbENxTCb89cHiLBSwjXpu2BIQ2PlwznwtRoAhoMr2LLbZpyfT1EhkkFPejAvs0NqJ6HmCkNEblC9QqRVFEFhua8qP0fiBQ7QlwdAuYdQlcUZuj1ALL5WjNCaApcBEXulw/w255-h254/3.png" width="255" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi31dTgF85Ai5XgIF3JxneXb0LDmIbldnmPPF5cWmuZ2eAuI21Jj-ZKYW1Dm4hly7taAlpxgizTlf24CWqAt5Dxf9vXiVMZpAwuBgNujOajdIiX9qJEHfmHAlrLVxm1nEjg3XYk9ow3Sck2uNmKqYKPdlOoLTDv9oCGD9ykdrFsZ3azeyZRiDNWgQ/s801/4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="693" data-original-width="801" height="219" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi31dTgF85Ai5XgIF3JxneXb0LDmIbldnmPPF5cWmuZ2eAuI21Jj-ZKYW1Dm4hly7taAlpxgizTlf24CWqAt5Dxf9vXiVMZpAwuBgNujOajdIiX9qJEHfmHAlrLVxm1nEjg3XYk9ow3Sck2uNmKqYKPdlOoLTDv9oCGD9ykdrFsZ3azeyZRiDNWgQ/w252-h219/4.png" width="252" /></a></div><br /><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;"> A big contrast to 1950 when S.Korea had no tanks in the Korean War. Steve Kiefer, GM International President, said in a press conference on Nov 12 that GM Korea will launch 10 new EV models in Korea by 2025, but none will be made locally. Mr.Kiefer added GM Korea will launch a new crossover model in 2023 at its Changwon plant. The crossover model will be a key product for GM Korea to sell locally as well as export to overseas, following the footsteps of Trailblazer SUVs that have been exported over 100,000 units since its launch in 2020 at Bupyeong plant. When closing its Gunsan plant in 2019, GM Korea made a commitment to the Korean government to invest 900 billion won($7.5B) in its Changwon plant for the next four years. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7TYDkhm2LsjoAnZUn4VW7N7rn68QLgezlm38AWqTT-5fg6T3yBsUDre2h0HAdW38IWKYbepRSZTUOt2WgKQUDWtNkjOk57Xl4dqAN4j5NY0WaKMhwozB7ud0y4i98AmLEo3XmZmQl_g/s228/unnamed.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="223" data-original-width="228" height="223" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7TYDkhm2LsjoAnZUn4VW7N7rn68QLgezlm38AWqTT-5fg6T3yBsUDre2h0HAdW38IWKYbepRSZTUOt2WgKQUDWtNkjOk57Xl4dqAN4j5NY0WaKMhwozB7ud0y4i98AmLEo3XmZmQl_g/s0/unnamed.png" width="228" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMjClBQsqtxGMdDBuLwWemOPnOEblmayb3fyzLTbdqjgCiV1BjxVdg9OhaCJZ-4eLAl3uib-w4pOyx0lxFHjdosM7u3wXQOhZqB52HvvSC3W3HuVhVdqeUhsb6lQk8gHsJQLu1yMdndQ/s300/image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="194" data-original-width="300" height="194" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMjClBQsqtxGMdDBuLwWemOPnOEblmayb3fyzLTbdqjgCiV1BjxVdg9OhaCJZ-4eLAl3uib-w4pOyx0lxFHjdosM7u3wXQOhZqB52HvvSC3W3HuVhVdqeUhsb6lQk8gHsJQLu1yMdndQ/s0/image.png" width="300" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLio49k3UOEUJf_4FHK1hvsLMinkmVfjDgvrgaif_T9e2w6dfdHbXYPFMkfEzqs6ta_XfTBdRDRCCq7j6x1Ih6VskBAPddrT1oPrXTJLuln4fzTUrOKiGOWEVJQA23SC9GsLJkj5HYzA/s369/image+%25281%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="147" data-original-width="369" height="127" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLio49k3UOEUJf_4FHK1hvsLMinkmVfjDgvrgaif_T9e2w6dfdHbXYPFMkfEzqs6ta_XfTBdRDRCCq7j6x1Ih6VskBAPddrT1oPrXTJLuln4fzTUrOKiGOWEVJQA23SC9GsLJkj5HYzA/s320/image+%25281%2529.png" width="320" /></a></div><p>GM models are respected by Korean, evidenced by the word "Gemucee"(제무시) coined during the Korean War. Wowed at the performance of GMC military trucks used in the mountainous Korean terrain, Koreans called anything that is about power, strength, durability, or reliability as Gemucee. For example, "Mike Tyson is a real Gemucee to beat his opponents with 19 straight K.O.s." Or, "You must be a Gemucee to have 11 kids!" A few of these Gemucee trucks are still active in Korea over 70 years after the Korean War. Korean consumers respect GM products. Korea has a strong auto supplier base including EV battery companies like LG Chemical, so many hope GM CEO Mary Barra sends Mr.Santa Claus instead for the next press interview in Seoul. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg80DtcEgwVdGkXKz_IFu6yW5ral-f6JLqe0H62kzesG96OcbF7v8RWejEedmaZ8X4m4Jpkm4Bf5s6bujk_S1wm9guoT0lyD7FHCtH6-KNaBgGqjvS0usJ7oeohyIANlIO2hw6oEjNFeg/s258/image+%25282%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="152" data-original-width="258" height="152" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg80DtcEgwVdGkXKz_IFu6yW5ral-f6JLqe0H62kzesG96OcbF7v8RWejEedmaZ8X4m4Jpkm4Bf5s6bujk_S1wm9guoT0lyD7FHCtH6-KNaBgGqjvS0usJ7oeohyIANlIO2hw6oEjNFeg/s0/image+%25282%2529.png" width="258" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFH4qoLczHSbPiPJUfSCypId88DCuqAe-onv0Zm7TUm-KxgzoGpsMreSTChqn5-AY2LLh4ZFTs1gSzUV2h5JKH2U0P2yTOL9oJkKiXOaz8YpQao_z4Ca8ijPFpCJw-fEvhaVmBe2FUPA/s585/unnamed+%25281%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="132" data-original-width="585" height="72" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFH4qoLczHSbPiPJUfSCypId88DCuqAe-onv0Zm7TUm-KxgzoGpsMreSTChqn5-AY2LLh4ZFTs1gSzUV2h5JKH2U0P2yTOL9oJkKiXOaz8YpQao_z4Ca8ijPFpCJw-fEvhaVmBe2FUPA/s320/unnamed+%25281%2529.png" width="320" /></a></div>Last Two Weekshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11862299586286090733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957664112680174584.post-61922945136553615202021-10-09T20:07:00.005+09:002021-10-09T20:07:57.285+09:00Squid Game from Korea turns into a whale gain for Netflix<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The Korean entertainment business has kept standing out in the world. Korean oil tanker to get oil money back<p>Good morning,</p><p>While the whole Korean peninsula turned into Kor-beria with temp dropping to -24 Celsius, the coldest in 35 years, Iran seized a S.Korean oil tanker in Strait of Hormuz on Jan 4, holding 20 crew members. Though Iran cited environmental sea pollution by the tanker, it was clear Iran's move is aimed at pressuring S.Korean government to speed up the release of the 7 billion oil dollars S.Korea is holding to follow the U.S. sanction against Iran. The two countries have been working on finding a solution such as paying with Covid 19 vaccines, but not much progress. S.Korea immediately dispatched top officials to Tehran for dialogue, despite Iran's refusal to their entry. It is feared the seizure will last long as there is no easy solution under the current hostile U.S.-Iran relationship. S.Korea turned into a shrimp caught between two fighting whales or suffering grass under fighting elephants.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFvPv37JwNBde-L93AQHvTtQvyTFMNTgd_1R3NsZ5Mx-6bp6_MzjNDZYKo266InkL7BqXuMzshRNbd8uwrbtFeyoKeDcC7im_GtW3cBqywmXmhbFffJsktbjTikoS_URHxUP7fTsqRbQ/s497/image+%25281%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="274" data-original-width="497" height="138" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFvPv37JwNBde-L93AQHvTtQvyTFMNTgd_1R3NsZ5Mx-6bp6_MzjNDZYKo266InkL7BqXuMzshRNbd8uwrbtFeyoKeDcC7im_GtW3cBqywmXmhbFffJsktbjTikoS_URHxUP7fTsqRbQ/w251-h138/image+%25281%2529.png" width="251" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhp4l2PNJeu0sQrAurDhOFQvvZo3r1T8ClkU-ZQL8ye5GvQuKwFuHPBzKC3j8_cLPmMqMDZDjRz9MYk21PoqsYrus66TuLERFFr6YoNQTr0zSo4b-21ckhORxwjrf4uKSp2QoKkGm_sA/s721/image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="512" data-original-width="721" height="143" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhp4l2PNJeu0sQrAurDhOFQvvZo3r1T8ClkU-ZQL8ye5GvQuKwFuHPBzKC3j8_cLPmMqMDZDjRz9MYk21PoqsYrus66TuLERFFr6YoNQTr0zSo4b-21ckhORxwjrf4uKSp2QoKkGm_sA/w201-h143/image.png" width="201" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs_U9un5f3aM3zRb9Rln8o0uWBowXhTe-Il4S7u0-pCyoPvO03rftBAM8MEwvFU0qdIdHJahswA3qhfzYPqsq2Tmtot-3zrbNowDK31h9QQ4rSpzOb9iTysH-b002zG4IkdKSg27C5wQ/s476/image+%25282%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="300" data-original-width="476" height="127" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs_U9un5f3aM3zRb9Rln8o0uWBowXhTe-Il4S7u0-pCyoPvO03rftBAM8MEwvFU0qdIdHJahswA3qhfzYPqsq2Tmtot-3zrbNowDK31h9QQ4rSpzOb9iTysH-b002zG4IkdKSg27C5wQ/w201-h127/image+%25282%2529.png" width="201" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;">There is only one street in Seoul named after a foreign city. Son picked up the ball on the edge of the Spur's penalty area, ran the entire length of 80meters for 12 seconds with 12 touches, ridiculing 6 Burnley defenders. You gotta see the video below as words cannot describe this "Sonsational" performance. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2SATljljXCY" width="320" youtube-src-id="2SATljljXCY"></iframe></div><br /><p>The Puskas Award was established in 2009 in honor of Hungarian Frenc Puskas who scored 512 goals in 528 matches in the 1960s to award the male or female, professional or amateur, who scored the most beautiful goal of the calendar year. He was a striker in Korean national team, served in the Air Force, began to play in German Bundes Liga late age of 26 in 1979, and scored 98 goals in BundesLiga until retirement in 1989. He was the Asian soccer player with most goals in European leagues until Son broke it this year. Cha owes his success to his high school coach. Cha being a devout Christian, and a gentleman reluctant to make foul plays, the coach used to take Cha to a slaughterhouse, forcing him to cut the cows into pieces, to instill vicious character inside Cha. Very likely my wife also got trained by Cha's coach, from the way she pushes me into Gucci and Prada shops. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7U0PgXTs8UI-emRd3Ve2SziTxFsnRczBkItH7B1CET13eduAUFCcsNmzFP3ADQXTRnft2d1E3CK2CBmpJsgRLaVkeiCF4scM8JKBN8Gum66-DtvDm88e2z93lfhOOyITFV5UMD7Cq0w/s310/image+%25282%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="260" data-original-width="310" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7U0PgXTs8UI-emRd3Ve2SziTxFsnRczBkItH7B1CET13eduAUFCcsNmzFP3ADQXTRnft2d1E3CK2CBmpJsgRLaVkeiCF4scM8JKBN8Gum66-DtvDm88e2z93lfhOOyITFV5UMD7Cq0w/w233-h195/image+%25282%2529.png" width="233" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxOEH2_AEMbVAXKjO4BSIOT3XuhA6OfqANFfvo-Ki2qkOMI6kCi7x0zZViVMHmhbH-J-zaLjEau-8UmNsAQ34VHmi1W5V25-v2TvCQ14GFdl0w5ilMEVFp4SJuCh3iuQ4mR8MbtcrRxg/s372/unnamed+%25282%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="372" data-original-width="218" height="190" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxOEH2_AEMbVAXKjO4BSIOT3XuhA6OfqANFfvo-Ki2qkOMI6kCi7x0zZViVMHmhbH-J-zaLjEau-8UmNsAQ34VHmi1W5V25-v2TvCQ14GFdl0w5ilMEVFp4SJuCh3iuQ4mR8MbtcrRxg/w112-h190/unnamed+%25282%2529.png" width="112" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWFIYd1EH2UviwD2rK0Vel1z43UkY0pUk3ykLZBY5Bh6FzSouSgT3VNB3BMT1X2UcB02hRuBM9vkWJznL2NZ-QizP2tPwcTBK2OYIJ5y-AkBYuR5f9t46HlSUYp4vkFPPpEqyImsEgGQ/s400/image+%25283%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="391" data-original-width="400" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWFIYd1EH2UviwD2rK0Vel1z43UkY0pUk3ykLZBY5Bh6FzSouSgT3VNB3BMT1X2UcB02hRuBM9vkWJznL2NZ-QizP2tPwcTBK2OYIJ5y-AkBYuR5f9t46HlSUYp4vkFPPpEqyImsEgGQ/w237-h232/image+%25283%2529.png" width="237" /></a></div><p>Regards,</p><p>H.S.</p><p>Please click <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SATljljXCY">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SATljljXCY</a> if you missed the above.</p>Last Two Weekshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11862299586286090733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957664112680174584.post-46752333015890291342020-10-28T21:49:00.003+09:002020-10-28T21:49:09.255+09:00LTW: Owner of Samsung Group passes away<br />Good morning,<br /><br /><br />The richest man in Asia, Samsung CEO Lee Kun-hee faded away at 78 on Oct 25. Born in 1942, he was the third son of Lee Byung-chull who founded Samsung in 1938, and became the CEO of the company in 1987 following his father's death. Kun-hee is credited with transforming tiny Samsung with 10 trillion Won in sales ($8.3B) at the time he inherited the company, into now 400 trillion Won ($335B) mighty Samsung, the largest manufacturing company in Asia ahead of Toyota, representing 20.4% of whole S.Korean GDP in 2018. To instill a quality mind in employees’ heads, he had 150K defect cell phones torched . To have employees change their business attitude, he ordered his managers to “change everything except your wife and kids.” To support his nation to win the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, he toured the world to persuade many voting IOC members. Lee Kun-hee will be succeeded by his only son, Lee Jay-yong, 52, who has been leading Samsung since Kun-hee went into coma six years ago after myocardial infarction.<div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2Jc9W2o8fgFag36eDcjZn9sCOF9Z_mafp9rrxzs7tCZw5sa2g_9qhyphenhyphen9rR5h5VELn4N0G8GQJojP2Dl7ibBHdORN3q55Hk8193pgnm1cRJxZ3-pvJETEU-_eJkij3FbvjyLbyZyZDxTQ/s641/image.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="302" data-original-width="641" height="125" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2Jc9W2o8fgFag36eDcjZn9sCOF9Z_mafp9rrxzs7tCZw5sa2g_9qhyphenhyphen9rR5h5VELn4N0G8GQJojP2Dl7ibBHdORN3q55Hk8193pgnm1cRJxZ3-pvJETEU-_eJkij3FbvjyLbyZyZDxTQ/w266-h125/image.png" width="266" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWwi91TkvqGDVPTCb9wXrvRIQ5qED4gbhKZ5ClAsxtv_1SsAfpS5m5OwQ0zVnW4PqTPpNMfKhlyCR1PHKGUcJHqhVZekje3oe8DA2Z9va5wZSsPTI7vziHaLTWiRktJvIEcBzZDLNyFQ/s381/unnamed.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="164" data-original-width="381" height="121" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWwi91TkvqGDVPTCb9wXrvRIQ5qED4gbhKZ5ClAsxtv_1SsAfpS5m5OwQ0zVnW4PqTPpNMfKhlyCR1PHKGUcJHqhVZekje3oe8DA2Z9va5wZSsPTI7vziHaLTWiRktJvIEcBzZDLNyFQ/w281-h121/unnamed.png" width="281" /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgex19W0RZ2YFqNMMQMeKqB9aAiHljcpg5-ilBzk9yCfSKdhaSZTNtkE3Aw9jRzl9___o8ntcBSO0nD_z2mtCGf6ZIrpJLoLDefq9ThYR3yeJJeaUS8QX7bN_VnUY10J34yDClYnpg2iA/s455/unnamed+%25281%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="261" data-original-width="455" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgex19W0RZ2YFqNMMQMeKqB9aAiHljcpg5-ilBzk9yCfSKdhaSZTNtkE3Aw9jRzl9___o8ntcBSO0nD_z2mtCGf6ZIrpJLoLDefq9ThYR3yeJJeaUS8QX7bN_VnUY10J34yDClYnpg2iA/s320/unnamed+%25281%2529.png" width="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxDPiCSqpeHVlLF0nmF0dm0867h90uKQ7dC0s4Rv_MnaYiKGeuT89JZ9HpG3aOk4m5x4JxQ9Ss7WM1mBiND7MYBVNue5tmjWZNpFoPbSk5WQP4Fbb51BoinorqLDz5gMTH2eW_P9MIag/s300/image+%25281%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="200" data-original-width="300" height="173" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxDPiCSqpeHVlLF0nmF0dm0867h90uKQ7dC0s4Rv_MnaYiKGeuT89JZ9HpG3aOk4m5x4JxQ9Ss7WM1mBiND7MYBVNue5tmjWZNpFoPbSk5WQP4Fbb51BoinorqLDz5gMTH2eW_P9MIag/w260-h173/image+%25281%2529.png" width="260" /></a></div></div><br /><br />While Lee Kun-hee has been successful in new business ventures, he failed miserably in one area; the auto industry. Known car maniac whose hobby is to collect super cars, Lee announced a plan in 1995 to build Samsung Motors with 250K units per year capacity in Busan. The first model, Nissan Maxima based SM5 sedan, began to roll off the line in 1998. Bad luck as it coincided with Asian Crisis, forcing Lee to sell Samsung Motors to Renault at a fire sale price in 2000. Thank God. A Korean woman stopped short of stepping into the fashion industry despite her large collection of Louis Vuitton and Prada handbags. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQDxq2xkUFyJkC_-I7gJglIUa67XPXYiajDTWBRCJhhI0VAo-3PamJ-0eR6BhJzmDA95qb9_RQWvxbkVR-1Zw_81FyF_LX2ONLg7IbX5CuVMHNa0JTJi8vWZRxpgV2tV8OxPSqUb6naw/s398/image+%25282%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="217" data-original-width="398" height="151" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQDxq2xkUFyJkC_-I7gJglIUa67XPXYiajDTWBRCJhhI0VAo-3PamJ-0eR6BhJzmDA95qb9_RQWvxbkVR-1Zw_81FyF_LX2ONLg7IbX5CuVMHNa0JTJi8vWZRxpgV2tV8OxPSqUb6naw/w278-h151/image+%25282%2529.png" width="278" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi1xvzsahIvLgT2Vzkbfo1HOTJUUInymLgJKpD4bMPSuf5uZrTUwKihhN0QrlM6eojIToStD3pib3w8llG5QcjKeQo2_-u4PKer4wcGNiZcrmpFg0DaGFhQGaMOURvAnmOiTsdJ2GkOA/s491/image+%25283%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="342" data-original-width="491" height="166" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi1xvzsahIvLgT2Vzkbfo1HOTJUUInymLgJKpD4bMPSuf5uZrTUwKihhN0QrlM6eojIToStD3pib3w8llG5QcjKeQo2_-u4PKer4wcGNiZcrmpFg0DaGFhQGaMOURvAnmOiTsdJ2GkOA/w238-h166/image+%25283%2529.png" width="238" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqYau5aCx5BzNpx5YMdWZAYoYgAfW-8Y9_6kavnHYMa1Ap9YagOCoUbRxVvQ2PTT9JbbTUAf3XDAZu03kmDN6v3Da3BDEDZXv9ngj8ToGH2Oy01xi-4E0Vbdw6r4GHl-3ch3Cy4CVm7A/s798/image+%25284%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="486" data-original-width="798" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqYau5aCx5BzNpx5YMdWZAYoYgAfW-8Y9_6kavnHYMa1Ap9YagOCoUbRxVvQ2PTT9JbbTUAf3XDAZu03kmDN6v3Da3BDEDZXv9ngj8ToGH2Oy01xi-4E0Vbdw6r4GHl-3ch3Cy4CVm7A/s320/image+%25284%2529.png" width="320" /></a></div> <p></p></div></div>Last Two Weekshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11862299586286090733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957664112680174584.post-16652399478988280502020-09-21T15:23:00.002+09:002020-09-21T16:18:14.996+09:00LTW: Korean Super mom under criticism over interference after son's AWOL<br /><br /> If to pick two celebrities with Choo as a family name, the first would be Choo Sin-soo in Texas Rangers who is doing O.K. with 5 HRs and 15 RBIs this season. The other would be Choo Mi-ae, the Justice Minister, who is in deep trouble over the suspicion she used her influence to cover his son's AWOL case. Choo's son serving as a KATUSA (Korean Augmentation to U.S. Army) had to return to his base after a sick leave on Jun 25, 2017, but failed to show up until the 9:00pm roll call. Panicked duty officer called Choo's son to arrive by 10:00pm or AWOL. The son replied he would, but did not come. Instead, a captain came to the duty officer, telling him not to report it as AWOL as Choo's son got a leave extension. The D.O blew the whistle in a TV interview lately that the "No AWOL" order was the behind the scene work of Choo who was the powerful chairwoman of the ruling party in 2017. Korean news media are reporting on Choo like what U.S. media did with O.J. Simpson. President Moon Jae-in is in a headache as Moon thinks no one can do better than Choo to reform the Prosecution Service the way he wants, while Moon's key pledge has been "Fairness with no privilege." <br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiUdA5WPh2KhvIvdft_xZmaKLghmn8DEwwYCnkxdTEWztF0WSqL7d_lV_Ue8k-u9z6-UPt0065bcZb5rxSbOwZHLWRvDhPDN4NEWpaV3VRZUtrybIe706W9i460IwBmwxf6rj3eZFlCA/s361/image+%25282%2529.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="264" data-original-width="361" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiUdA5WPh2KhvIvdft_xZmaKLghmn8DEwwYCnkxdTEWztF0WSqL7d_lV_Ue8k-u9z6-UPt0065bcZb5rxSbOwZHLWRvDhPDN4NEWpaV3VRZUtrybIe706W9i460IwBmwxf6rj3eZFlCA/w263-h192/image+%25282%2529.png" width="263" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqtFE3MOrMkbx9-OISHFdeKnbVFDyqO8BMzRRHeEhm_LU61dyX53iLtAAQXKWSmh1gd0U9IOgX-8G8PoYeT09hZe5iPlW6lsXnYECzIyFB4meuSItfKx6taY810PbKyTennznb95HBRQ/s354/image+%25283%2529.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="317" data-original-width="354" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqtFE3MOrMkbx9-OISHFdeKnbVFDyqO8BMzRRHeEhm_LU61dyX53iLtAAQXKWSmh1gd0U9IOgX-8G8PoYeT09hZe5iPlW6lsXnYECzIyFB4meuSItfKx6taY810PbKyTennznb95HBRQ/w223-h200/image+%25283%2529.png" width="223" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijoG6S6xXcWQYQy-rwi560fvNYgU8Vnog3t7cctyb4e9L3DJUT3HEGUooYG-AUorcokPGJcGoxMn_-zBOTIWwe3M_Et9c_qcEknccxuE2koIkc5cK54QvFxlxjmxhUVmw9n6EuggsuIQ/s340/image.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="317" data-original-width="340" height="247" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijoG6S6xXcWQYQy-rwi560fvNYgU8Vnog3t7cctyb4e9L3DJUT3HEGUooYG-AUorcokPGJcGoxMn_-zBOTIWwe3M_Et9c_qcEknccxuE2koIkc5cK54QvFxlxjmxhUVmw9n6EuggsuIQ/w265-h247/image.png" width="265" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilxfmnyzJX8gvf8HzRnUyQ4TMCnzIr00gCOozFH0hClV2DiC3a2QSDIVYpuGT8TiagduvgXunDgkEUEtXXLgaPLLno8j3RAT0uT4yNuRTRy3YVsdN2cqb0X6hDSHR5dBkRdCeXZjKU1w/s445/image+%25281%2529.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="345" data-original-width="445" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilxfmnyzJX8gvf8HzRnUyQ4TMCnzIr00gCOozFH0hClV2DiC3a2QSDIVYpuGT8TiagduvgXunDgkEUEtXXLgaPLLno8j3RAT0uT4yNuRTRy3YVsdN2cqb0X6hDSHR5dBkRdCeXZjKU1w/s320/image+%25281%2529.png" width="320" /></a><br /><br />There are two well known AWOL cases in the U.S. Army in Korea. One was Sergeant Charles Jenkins who crossed DMZ to defect to North Korea in 1965. With hero's welcome in Pyongyang and marriage with an abducted Japanese woman, Jenkins worked as North Korea propaganda and English teacher until 2004 when he managed to escape to Japan with his wife after a deal between Japan and North Korea. The other was a KATUSA in the 80's. On Oct 9, 1983, North Korean agents detonated a bomb in Rangoon, then Burma, when President Chun Doo-hwan visited Aungsan National Cemetery. Chun barely escaped the bombing, but 17 of Chun's key cabinet members were killed. DEFCON 3 was issued around 2:00pm, ordering all military personnel to return to their post immediately. Oct 9 being a national holiday, the KATUSA thought DEFCON 3 was a joke , and kept doing what he was doing, mostly beer and soju with his civilian friends, returning to barracks around midnight. He was about to be reported as AWOL, and had to give 1,000 push-ups to his angry captain. He should have called his mommy for help.<div><div style="text-align: justify;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmcSZTn7byMLH9rrSO7tDGQDylYU5axZD4uNf2bE9WO8_U4g2JtRS3C7lVM4lvtjSHjY-1gvEJF3u1IyRZXg5_FfW90BVpmQPydm3SUzygbXR6lbyNmEnAIQRyap40zxjRJK2X3L_R8g/s208/unnamed.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="208" data-original-width="178" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmcSZTn7byMLH9rrSO7tDGQDylYU5axZD4uNf2bE9WO8_U4g2JtRS3C7lVM4lvtjSHjY-1gvEJF3u1IyRZXg5_FfW90BVpmQPydm3SUzygbXR6lbyNmEnAIQRyap40zxjRJK2X3L_R8g/s0/unnamed.png" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGOljOdxTc7KAGXKVmhNEw8nC8yZjjdHrO8pGHVQNvNU0b7RAPQPa51QVljutwCbHjBQe1Zdj8HeKseaecHxvhBJxNakDgtTXdf5IpAv8JuZTyCFpBCLlEGp_m1YVhG7sYAIOyJOtIig/s300/unnamed+%25281%2529.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="300" data-original-width="241" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGOljOdxTc7KAGXKVmhNEw8nC8yZjjdHrO8pGHVQNvNU0b7RAPQPa51QVljutwCbHjBQe1Zdj8HeKseaecHxvhBJxNakDgtTXdf5IpAv8JuZTyCFpBCLlEGp_m1YVhG7sYAIOyJOtIig/w161-h201/unnamed+%25281%2529.png" width="161" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRJGtDUKAs2FGk6wb0s3mzGzEYKGGmykxrQhtCHeYkfbbI4_keD8FC1dB0im67agCLyg3oYsc4HVyPyGmQzT8xmnBrBbVdp2YHCNuu9JciJT-RKjacOdWnEwhH7m-dwmghvMnumZ6H0Q/s503/image+%25284%2529.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="303" data-original-width="503" height="222" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRJGtDUKAs2FGk6wb0s3mzGzEYKGGmykxrQhtCHeYkfbbI4_keD8FC1dB0im67agCLyg3oYsc4HVyPyGmQzT8xmnBrBbVdp2YHCNuu9JciJT-RKjacOdWnEwhH7m-dwmghvMnumZ6H0Q/w368-h222/image+%25284%2529.png" width="368" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /></div>Last Two Weekshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11862299586286090733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4957664112680174584.post-14747444216774863762020-08-18T20:12:00.005+09:002020-08-18T20:13:47.682+09:00LTW: Korean Economy in Good Shape? While the global economy has been tanking from the Corona crisis, S.Korean economy has been relatively hit softer. The latest OECD survey showed Korea's GDP will drop only 0.8% in 2020, the best among the 37 OECD nations with average forecasted to be negative 7.5%. The second best was Turkey with minus 4.8%. Hyundai also did fairly, making 590 billion Won($494M) operating profit in Q2 this year, while all other major car makers are bleeding red, thanks to strong sales of luxury brand Genesis models and no shutdown of Hyundai plants in Korea. Korean stock market was O.K too, climbing from a low of 1,439 at the time of Corona peak in March to 2,400 in the KOSPI index, the highest in the past 24 months. Economists contribute all of this to the proactive containment of Corona pandemic with no lockdown and expansionary fiscal policy to minimize damage to the economy.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZKlweBRKxyWkYcx0-8YN6ptZbDUN5JBRBlcXwMunbudkDGnTJwpHTq3saE3rILb2LoCcW3v-u9U09fgNCtm-z07ubIVm8eZcWqqrEjY_AnORk00ColHxXm9jDDUR1zFAOFjrCBuGLjg/s356/image.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="356" data-original-width="332" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZKlweBRKxyWkYcx0-8YN6ptZbDUN5JBRBlcXwMunbudkDGnTJwpHTq3saE3rILb2LoCcW3v-u9U09fgNCtm-z07ubIVm8eZcWqqrEjY_AnORk00ColHxXm9jDDUR1zFAOFjrCBuGLjg/w213-h228/image.png" width="213" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOpNmKz2hG3BdV69YooCCwNpritkezvuccdmezJ1HXfRk8i4-VVE1dMQKDJAJOJOkRAjO1l-8dz59XBWahJRDZcWj3w1DPphnsJZza4fzgnGMxtQTjWaU_2L-P7iy8-K5W2ZK4yOhtvA/s310/image+%25281%2529.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="187" data-original-width="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOpNmKz2hG3BdV69YooCCwNpritkezvuccdmezJ1HXfRk8i4-VVE1dMQKDJAJOJOkRAjO1l-8dz59XBWahJRDZcWj3w1DPphnsJZza4fzgnGMxtQTjWaU_2L-P7iy8-K5W2ZK4yOhtvA/s0/image+%25281%2529.png" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgijkApMUyP-TkVOodySx3dwvC3Qdhr64JAEt1JOjqzMPd57EenagLnzBYJmxDem_bhU0rFoyofur8eRr36TxyDZ-yOIgDJbkAkJg3J9l6xRIYQg5TAc4huVWHVW1GEQG44lf9chhZvnA/s635/image+%25282%2529.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="322" data-original-width="635" height="206" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgijkApMUyP-TkVOodySx3dwvC3Qdhr64JAEt1JOjqzMPd57EenagLnzBYJmxDem_bhU0rFoyofur8eRr36TxyDZ-yOIgDJbkAkJg3J9l6xRIYQg5TAc4huVWHVW1GEQG44lf9chhZvnA/w406-h206/image+%25282%2529.png" width="406" /></a></div><br />Another business humming along are three Korean battery makers that enjoy increasing demand for electric vehicles worldwide. First elected mayor of Korea's capital in 2011 in a by-election, Park was reelected in 2014 and 2016, with two years left in his term. Park was also expected to run for presidency in 2022 for the current ruling Democratic Party of Korea. An irony is that long time civic activist Park gained his reputation after winning Korea's first sexual harassment case in 1998 as a lawyer for a female assistant professor , which led to Female Rights Activist of the Year award for Park. Another blck eye for the ruling party whose Mayor of Busan, Korea's 2nd largest city, resigned three months ago over sexual offense against his secretary, and whose Governor of Chungnam Province is currently serving in jail on sexual assaults against, again, his secretary. A controversy arose over an extravagant mortuary set up by the City of Seoul for use until the funeral on July 13 . "Why tax payer's money for sex offender? vs. "Why not for Park's 10 year dedication for Seoul ?" <br />

Seoul became the capital of Korea 626 years ago after a military coup in 1388 by General Lee Sung-gye who defied his king's order to attack the emerging Ming dynasty in China. Gen Lee changed the country name from Koryo to Chosun, and moved the capital from Kaesong, just above DMZ where Kim Jong-un recently blew up the N-S Liaison Office, to Seoul in 1394 because Lee valued the advantage of a big river around Seoul. Lee built his palace where it still stands in the center of Seoul. The name Chosun is still alive as North Korea calls its country Democratic Republic of Chosun People. Yep. North Korea is a democratic nation just like a mosquito is a bird.<br />

<br /></div>
S.Korea suddenly turned into "Land of Morning Virus'. Since the first Corona 19 case on Jan 20, it took nearly a month to reach 51 cases until Feb 18. The cases then doubled in one day to 104, with the first death on Feb 19, and have been increasing exponentially with 3,150 cases and 17 fatalities as of Feb 29. Nearly 85% of the cases centered around Daegu, 323km(201mi) Southeast of Seoul, that have 5.4 million people with high concentration of large auto suppliers. No auto suppliers have been shutdown yet because of the virus, but Hyundai had to stop its No.2 plant in Ulsan that produce Santafe, Pallisade and Genesis G80 SUV because of one paint shop employee with virus. Over 71 countries have placed either total ban or some control of Koreans entering their countries. President Moon Jae-in is under fire for his premature Feb 13 "Corona will soon end" comment, and he and his wife's loud laughter in a lunch with Parasite team on Feb 21 despite the news of virus hike. Imagine George and Laura Bush were all in smiles at a gala dinner on Sep 11, 2001. <br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmTWENUIuTz52338JmgMLUObn36gTECRCGrHkKJYeD6W_zRaCGqhenrNYxMN2OnzrO7XbeRML2j6EZJuQQaO5mA4le9W1by5KC2rFyqc7i32Qdqp6y38yTPy2LUMRCJyhsoCydWG9uSQ/s1600/image.png" imageanchor="1" style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: #0066cc; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; orphans: 2; text-align: center; text-decoration: underline; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="386" data-original-width="600" height="205" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmTWENUIuTz52338JmgMLUObn36gTECRCGrHkKJYeD6W_zRaCGqhenrNYxMN2OnzrO7XbeRML2j6EZJuQQaO5mA4le9W1by5KC2rFyqc7i32Qdqp6y38yTPy2LUMRCJyhsoCydWG9uSQ/s320/image.png" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdJFGX3STFpDaWsEnzIdLsBHriQII7jNb0t1fRPtgygD7cNduKjyxFObOBvcmlLYvxHZiI5jlLskuNMHFQ0RTMLfRzBMBY0t_9Hyc1PeAr4I22Tf6j56jafrK7eerbVQ1ExrCUFT2PTw/s1600/image+%25281%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: #0066cc; font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; orphans: 2; text-align: center; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;"><img border="0" data-original-height="193" data-original-width="431" height="143" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdJFGX3STFpDaWsEnzIdLsBHriQII7jNb0t1fRPtgygD7cNduKjyxFObOBvcmlLYvxHZiI5jlLskuNMHFQ0RTMLfRzBMBY0t_9Hyc1PeAr4I22Tf6j56jafrK7eerbVQ1ExrCUFT2PTw/s320/image+%25281%2529.png" style="cursor: move;" width="320" /></a><br /><br /><div>
The WHO called the virus Corona, hopefully not to anger Mexican boozers, and medically termed it COVID-19. Had the WHO known S.Korea would become such a hotbed for the virus, it would have used 18, instead of 19. Use caution with 18 as its Korean pronunciation, "Shippal", sounds exactly the same as a Korean bad word with the intensity between "f**k' and "s**t ". No joke as a frustrated Korean newspaper actually put it Corona 18, whether by mistake or on purpose. </div>

Bad week for South Korea. Russian A-50 AWACS plane broke into S.Korean airspace in East Sea (Sea of Japan) on July 23 during joint Russia-China military exercise, testing the tattered S Korea-U.S.-Japan triangle alliance after recent sentimental trade war between S.Korea and Japan. Total of 18 South Korean F-15 fighters had to scramble, firing 360 warning shots to force the Russian plane out. It was the first time Korean airspace was violated since the end of Korean War in 1953. When asked for apology, Russia snapped that it was Korean pilots who went crazy enough to fire shots. Angered by South Korea's recent deployment of F-35 stealth fighters, N.Korea's Kim Jong-un fired two short range ballistic missiles again on July 25, which Donald Trump said was O.K. Adding insult to injury, Italy's Juventus manager put Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench throughout the match against K-League All Star team on July 26, thumbing his nose at 65,000 packed spectators and millions glued to TV at the expectation the super star would play minimum 45 minutes. </div>

S.Korean neighbors are poking fun at South Korea. China is still making economic retaliation for allowing THADD missiles in a U.S. base in S.Korea. Japan is slapping on S. Korea with export restriction on key materials used for semi conductors. Russia is making a dangerous entry to Korean territory. A cartoon in French newspaper Le Monde below describes the current situation very well with Japanese, Chinese and Russian anglers trying to catch a fish called Coree (Korea). The funny thing is this cartoon was published over 110 years ago around 1904. Japanese angler eventually caught the Coree in 1910, and put it on sashimi plate for dinner. History better not repeat. </div>

South Korea and Japan are into diplomatic/economic war never seen since liberation in 1945. Japan announced export restrictions to S.Korea on key materials like hydrogen fluoride used in semiconductors effective July 4, saying "trust" between the two nations was broken after the Korean Supreme court's decision to order Japanese companies like Nippon Steel to compensate Korean workers forced to provide labor during Japanese colonial rule. Japanese government has been arguing that the Korean Supreme Court decision is against the 1965 diplomacy normalization agreement in which Japan provide $500 million, then 25% of Japanese foreign currency reserve, as a overall compensation for the Japanese rule of Korea in return for no further demand whatsoever. Japan also got irked by President Moon Jaein government's unilateral scrap of the irrevocable 2015 comfort women deal ex-president Park Geunhye had made to form a foundation with 10 billion Won ($8.9M) from Japanese government. With South Korea depending on semiconductors for nearly 20% of Korea's export and Japan having virtual global monopoly of high tech hydrogen fluoride, Korea dispatched two trade officials to Tokyo on July 12 for negotiation, only facing cold shoulders evidenced by no handshake at a warehouse like meeting room with hosts offering not even a glass of water. South Korea turned to the U.S. for mediation, but U.S. Ambassador to Korea Harry Harris backed away, commenting "Current issues are to be settled between two mature nations." Korean president Moon warned Japan not to go toward a dead end while Japanese PM Shinzo Abe hinted hydrogen fluoride might be only an appetizer. Things look real bad. </div>

N.Korea's Kim Jongun must be all smiles at the frosty South Korea -Japan relationship. His grandpa Kim Ilsung, the founder of N.Korea, had preached 'Kot Keun' theory. Kot means traditional Korean hat, and Keun is string that ties together under neck to hold Kot. In Kot Keun theory, South Korea is Kot which holds in place because of strongly tied two Keuns, one is S.Korea-U.S relationship and the other is S.Korea-Japan. If either Keun is cut off, Kot South Korea will be blown away. While Kot Keun theory was actually practiced in S.Korea with massive street demonstration against the U.S. and Japan in the past, my wife has no interest in this theory. Louis Vuitton has no plan to produce Kot. </div>

It was the first time a Korean movie director won this award, more meaningful as it is 100th year since movie first came to Korea, then Japanese colony, in 1919. The Grand Prix, the 2nd prize, went to Mati Diop for her debut film "Atlantics," who became the fist black female to receive a prize. Bong's first film was released in 2000, and the Parasite which explores working class struggles, was his 9th movie. South Korean Moon Jae-in sent a congratulatory letter to Bong, commenting he was anxious to watch Parasite.<br />

President Moon tends to get much into movies. One of his top policies is to move away from nuclear power dependency for solar and wind energy. Moon deactivated a few nuke power plants earlier than planned, and scrapped plans to build more. Moon's expensive No Nuclear policy was formed after he watched Pandora which was about Chernobyl type nuclear disaster movie. Better buy Pfizer or Roche stocks now as Moon might force every Korean to take antiparasitic pills everyday after watching the Palme d'Or movie.<br />

With Donald Trump under Mike Cohen's deep stab in the back and Kim Jong-un's desperate need for sanctions off, both Trump and Kim had good reasons to land a deal,whether small or big, at their 2nd encounter in Vietnam, on Feb 28. It didn't go well as Trump literally walked away from lunch table because Kim demanded all sanctions be lifted while Trump insisted more than the dismantlement of Yongbyon nuclear complex. "Basically they wanted the sanctions lifted, in their entirety, and we couldn't do that. They were willing to denuke a large portion of the areas that we wanted, but we couldn't give up sanctions for that. So we continue, but we had to walk away from that particular suggestion," said Trump. Kim now has to take another 66 hours train ride back to Pyongyang with empty hands to his North Koreans.While South Korean government expressed regrets over the summit result, many cheer Trump's decision as they also think no deal better than bad deal.<br />

Joseon was the dynasty before Korea got merged by Japan in 1910, and March 1 is meaningful because of the 100th anniversary of Independence Movement in 1919. S.Korean law required all able bodied men between 18 and 35 to serve two years in the military, or face maximum 3 years in prison. More than 19,000 conscientious objectors have been criminally punished since 1950, and majority of them were Johovah's Witness who cite Isaiah 1:4 that says, "Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore." Conservatives criticized the verdict, saying it will bring sense of loss to Korean men who fought in the military to defend the nation from Kim dynasty in the north.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Korean men join military only because it is their sacred duty, evidenced by 3,000 Korean Won ($5) a month pay, no typo, when I joined the army in 1982. My father served in the Air Force in the 50's. My brother was stationed near DMZ for 30 months. Though they don't have to because of their Canadian citizenship, my first son volunteered the army to be sent to South Sudan to fight off insurgents and so did my 2nd son to serve in the Air Force. Korea's No.1 chicken franchise Kyochon became a target of public anger after CCTV footage of a senior executive attempting to smash employees was released on Oct 25. In the footage recorded at a Kyochon restaurant in Daegu in Mar, 2015, the executive is seen poised to punch an employee in the face, raising his fist in a threatening gesture, but was stopped by other employee. He was also seen lifting his hands against other employees who were trying to calm him down as he irately threw over food ingredients.<br />

More criticism arose as the executive was a relative of Kyochon's founder & CEO who let go his relative right after the incident, but reinstated him one year later. As the public outrage escalates, the CEO fired his relative again a day after video release, not to face the same fate as Korean Air which had been through 6 months of all sorts of gruelling prosecutor investigations when it was reported the chairman's daughter threw water to her staffs and suppliers in a meeting in March this year.<br />

I was also angry at Kyochon, but read the news article closely to learn why the executive lost his temper. As shown in red below, he was upset because the "employees were not paying attention to food quality." I suspect the release of the video was for either Kyochon's deliberate ploy to promote its quality reputation or the executive's secret resume to Colonel Sanders for KFC's head of quality position. A few hundred separated families in S.Korea and N.Korea had a three day reunion in August while South Korean president Moon Jae-in took part time job to deliver N.Korean leader Kim Jong-un's love letter to Donald Trump after his car parade with Kim in Pyongyang in mid September. In a meeting with Donald Trump in New York on Sep 24, President Moon also signed a revised Free Trade Agreement in which the U.S. will extend 20 more years to impose 25% tax on Korean trucks until 2041, virtually barring Hyundai's entry into U.S. pick-up truck market, and US car makers can double their sales in Korea from 25K to 50K a year per manufacturer. It was a revision lopsided in favor of the U.S. in general. " The new agreement includes significant improvements to reduce our trade deficit and to expand opportunities to export American products to South Korea," said Donal Trump. Moon Jae-in responded by saying "With the swift conclusion of the revision, uncertainty surrounding our FTA has been eliminated." South Koreans have been worried the unpredictable Trump may scrap the whole FTA with South Korea. The U.S. is S.Korea's 2nd largest export market with 12.5% share, followed by China's 25%. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It is a good thing that Pres. Moon signed the revised deal, but a bit irony that Moon was an active opponent of FTA with the U.S. when original pact went effect six years ago in 2012. Moon was at the center of his opposition party that had waged massive protests in the streets in Seoul while his crazy fellow lawmaker detonated a tear gas canister at the National Assembly to thwart the voting process on the FTA bill, claiming the Korea-US FTA is a monster that will ultimately kill Korean economy. <br />Much respected BMW is currently facing a big image problem as its 520d models keep catching fire in Korea. In 2018 alone until Aug 4, total of 32 BMW cars got fire on the road. More frustrating is that these engine fires take place only in Korea, not in other nations. After reports of some parking lots banning 520d models and an internet mockery of BMW as Burn My Wagon, BMW Korea finally made an apology on Aug 6, explaining that a leakage of coolant from the EGR cooler is the root cause of the problem, and that this is not a unique problem in Korea. Korean version of NHTSA is not buying BMW's root cause analysis, and urged BMW to come up with more detailed reports. It is estimated that 8.5% of the 106,317 BMW cars ordered for recall have potential to burst into flames. While BMW owners are lining up to file a lawsuit, BMW sales in Korea has dropped 43.9% in 4 months from 7,052 units in March to 3,959 vehicles in July. </div>

I was at BMW headquarter in Munich, Germany, last week. With over 30 years in Korean auto industry, I thought about dashing into the head office for a meeting with high level engineering team to address the urgent issues from Korean consumers, especially on why fire in Korea only. My wife stopped me as she has more urgent issue to address at a Louis Vuitton store in downtown Munich. <br />

It was the first time Asian country ever defeated Germany in World Cup history, and the first time Germany got eliminated in the World Cup preliminary league since 1938. Another news with South Korea over Germany came as Hyundai Genesis ranked highest in the recent influential J.D Power 2018 U.S. Initial Quality Survey(IQS) which measures the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles during the fist 90 days of ownership.The lower the score, the better. Its sister Kia took the 2nd with 72, followed by Hyundai with 74. Impressed with Korean Hyundai and Kia in top 3, Forbes magazine compared it "man biting dog." Premium German car maker Porsche ranked 4th with 79 while BMW and Mercedes-Benz found themselves at 11th and 15th, respectively. Though Hyundai has become a major player with over 8 million vehicles a year, its start was meager. Hyundai's first model, Ford Cortina, went into production in Ulsan plant in Nov 1968, assembling Cortina components from Ford U.K. Its production was less than 6,000 a year. Many of Hyundai engineers who worked on Cortina in 1968 are still active in Korean auto industry. Imagine those engineers who built Model T with Henry Ford are still pounding table at operation reviews in Detroit suppliers.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

While Donald Trump is changing his mind on the meeting with Kim Jong-un as often as he makes trips to bathroom in diarrhea, two Korean celebrities have made histories in the U.S. Sin-Soo Choo, a Korean in Texas Rangers, hit a good-bye home run, his 176th home run in his MLB career, on May 27 in the 10th inning against Kansas City Royals, becoming the Asian with most home runs in MLB history since his debut in 2005 with Seattle Mariners. Matsui Hideki of Japan had held the title with 175 home runs until his retirement in 2012. Another Korean sensation was with boy band BTS as they earned the first No.1 album on Billboard 200 chart with 'Love Yourself:Tear', becoming the first K-pop album to lead the Billboard 200, and the first foreign language chart topper since 2006 when Il Divo topped the list with Ancora in the mixture f Spanish, Italian and French. </div>

In the 3rd inning against St.Louis Cardinals, Chanho Park allowed two grand slams, to the same hitter , and all this in one inning. Bill Phillips of Pittsburgh Pirates gave two grand slams in one inning nearly a century ago in 1890, but it was with two different hitters. The Cardinals hitter that helped Chanho Park shine in MLB history was Fernando Tatis who is also listed with the most RBI in one inning in MLB history. Hard to believe? Just check it out below. <span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"><div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: center; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px;">

<br />
<br />
As you have probably seen live on CNN on Apr 27, Kim Jong-un became the first North Korean leader to cross DMZ for a meeting in S.Korea since Korea got divided right after liberation from Japan in 1945. In a joint Panmunjom Declaration after a big bear hug accompanied by their spouses, Kim Jong-un and SK president Moon Jae-in pledged to make nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, agreed to officially end the Korean War by the end this year, promised to hold another summit meeting in Pyeongyang this fall, and vowed to halt hostile acts along the DMZ, such as loudspeaker propaganda broadcasting. While most Koreans are excited about the dramatic turnaround from just a few months ago when Kim and Trump threw mud at each other over the size of their nuclear buttons, some critics caution that the Panmunjom Declaration is not much different from the two previous summit meetings in Pyongyang between Kim Jong-il and Kim Dae-jung in 2000 and with Roh Mu-hyun in 2007. The critics argue Kim Jong-un would be very reluctant by instinct to throw away for nothing the very thing that made him get all the attention from the rest of the world including the mighty U.S.<br />

<br />The Moon-Kim summit served only an appetizer as there were no details over how and when the denuclearization can be completed. The main menu will be coming when Trump sits on the table with Kim Jong-un in 3-4 weeks for CVID of nuclear program. My two cents for Trump and Moon for their Nobel. Trump better understand Kim Jong-un has Hitler's DNA in his family blood . Kim's grandpa started Korean War in 1950, much like Hitler did WWII, Kim's father blew up Korean Air flight in 1987, killing hundreds of innocent passengers, much like Hitler's Auschwitz, and Kim Jong-un himself terminated his own cronies, brother and uncle, much like Hitler did away with his Nazi friend Ernst Rohm in Nacht der langen Messer in 1934. Two previous S.Korean presidents got duped by Kim Jong-un's father in the past. President Moon better keep in mind, "If deceived the first time, it can be a mistake. If cheated the 2nd time, it is because you are a fool. If third time, you are an accomplice." Below is what Moon's barber will make Moon should he become an accomplice. It started when Seo Ji-hyeon, a district attorney, appeared on TV on Jan 29, accusing her then boss Ahn Tae-geun groped her in a funeral home in 2010. That opened the gate, and a flurry of Me Too came out. Seoul city government removed a tribute to Ko Un, 84, a respected poet and perennial candidate for Nobel Prize in Literature, for multiple accusations of his sexual misconduct in the past. Police questioned Lee Youn-taik, a prominent playwright and a best friend to President Moon Jae-in over 50 years, on sexual allegations on a dozen women in his theater troupe. An Hee-jung, the governor of Choongcheong Province with high potential to be the next president, had to resign and face prosecutors when his own secretary accused him of raping her. Rep. Min Byung-doo of the ruling party announced his resignation at a news report that he made an unwanted sexual advances at a karaoke bar in 2008. A famous actor and a professor at a university committed suicide out of shame when media reported their sexual misconducts to would-be actresses and students. Can go on with 10 more stories. A big puzzle is why all this Me Too are taking place with those in the liberal, instead of conservatives. <br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5uLEerKsDdMO3buovmKT5ZHDRnehoX4sKX8jXH6PEBLDzz1Ylgt37wNqefsY8yHOCan7RbikQ7QWKSx0xJlZXDjUG1WWwjfVGWoFGx_1UmpWqCennzU7c2CG8a6s5tzQg3my7vdKmKA/s1600/unnamed+%25282%2529.png"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA2v8bpArlzk96B9ctjpHcu0yU5T8TxQsEl7ulwosvFFM4Zuxriii7erunjrmmNu7AWQL5Lmx7Qb7CQ67jSW_KIPaH4CJia3uoy0S_eeLeBQuMNp3Wyqvnp5fvO_nQ5l9hfcku0LCAVg/s1600/unnamed+%25283%2529.png"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm7L-RgVKA59kIcML_n68npDU8PWvzprFAqcRjcTskH9iXC4N1WM5gCdYHItF3VgBzKVsjD6xpzdUPZYMei9HPa5-VD-9Gbzu5Qqh2IL1Mex1o0F2HqJ7uk0XkuvYeDbDv-MfS7uamMg/s1600/unnamed+%25284%2529.png"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPwJXjXLnePwXFsi2NQWd0M-N9tE8OdiTyYgupSa4SwdqTho2-a1NEZXJweVPq3pgqshGlZqZHHn9YGREO59rt_EHUrnyYSjBZYzIE1Qoz_8RT7yE0pxX5sFF3lIJYPvOSvoS-a7N1xA/s1600/unnamed.png"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPwJXjXLnePwXFsi2NQWd0M-N9tE8OdiTyYgupSa4SwdqTho2-a1NEZXJweVPq3pgqshGlZqZHHn9YGREO59rt_EHUrnyYSjBZYzIE1Qoz_8RT7yE0pxX5sFF3lIJYPvOSvoS-a7N1xA/s200/unnamed.png" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAUGqQu_qfL_fJK-jYYJizHf7vpapyB6xCxuHU6bEXwNQg3jAifn3vBkKEqPP9xJNlfOVCxa2dyFcIMFHAb4wB0WSHwTXUKJCeGg-w7euGYwC2TCTbc3nhRDdlTenBzbnVytoeqqM3UQ/s1600/unnamed+%25281%2529.png"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAUGqQu_qfL_fJK-jYYJizHf7vpapyB6xCxuHU6bEXwNQg3jAifn3vBkKEqPP9xJNlfOVCxa2dyFcIMFHAb4wB0WSHwTXUKJCeGg-w7euGYwC2TCTbc3nhRDdlTenBzbnVytoeqqM3UQ/s200/unnamed+%25281%2529.png" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5uLEerKsDdMO3buovmKT5ZHDRnehoX4sKX8jXH6PEBLDzz1Ylgt37wNqefsY8yHOCan7RbikQ7QWKSx0xJlZXDjUG1WWwjfVGWoFGx_1UmpWqCennzU7c2CG8a6s5tzQg3my7vdKmKA/s1600/unnamed+%25282%2529.png"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5uLEerKsDdMO3buovmKT5ZHDRnehoX4sKX8jXH6PEBLDzz1Ylgt37wNqefsY8yHOCan7RbikQ7QWKSx0xJlZXDjUG1WWwjfVGWoFGx_1UmpWqCennzU7c2CG8a6s5tzQg3my7vdKmKA/s200/unnamed+%25282%2529.png" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA2v8bpArlzk96B9ctjpHcu0yU5T8TxQsEl7ulwosvFFM4Zuxriii7erunjrmmNu7AWQL5Lmx7Qb7CQ67jSW_KIPaH4CJia3uoy0S_eeLeBQuMNp3Wyqvnp5fvO_nQ5l9hfcku0LCAVg/s1600/unnamed+%25283%2529.png"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA2v8bpArlzk96B9ctjpHcu0yU5T8TxQsEl7ulwosvFFM4Zuxriii7erunjrmmNu7AWQL5Lmx7Qb7CQ67jSW_KIPaH4CJia3uoy0S_eeLeBQuMNp3Wyqvnp5fvO_nQ5l9hfcku0LCAVg/s200/unnamed+%25283%2529.png" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm7L-RgVKA59kIcML_n68npDU8PWvzprFAqcRjcTskH9iXC4N1WM5gCdYHItF3VgBzKVsjD6xpzdUPZYMei9HPa5-VD-9Gbzu5Qqh2IL1Mex1o0F2HqJ7uk0XkuvYeDbDv-MfS7uamMg/s1600/unnamed+%25284%2529.png"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm7L-RgVKA59kIcML_n68npDU8PWvzprFAqcRjcTskH9iXC4N1WM5gCdYHItF3VgBzKVsjD6xpzdUPZYMei9HPa5-VD-9Gbzu5Qqh2IL1Mex1o0F2HqJ7uk0XkuvYeDbDv-MfS7uamMg/s400/unnamed+%25284%2529.png" /></a><span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px; orphans: 2; widows: 2;"><b><i>Ann Taegeun/Ko Un/Lee Yountaik/An Heejung/Min Byung-doo from left to right</i></b></span><br />

Korean society had been generous about men jokes in the past, especially while in drinking. Not any more. The Minister of Defense was in trouble for his joke at a dinner speech last year. "What do speeches and skirts have in common? The shorter, the better." He meant good to have his hungry soldiers not wait too long for his speech to end, but it was not appropriate. "A good speech should be like a woman's skirt:long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest." Good thing Winston Churchill made this comment over 70 years ago. If now, <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn__61aNbuc6f74JKBXuWwbCd3EWV1fLsK0P54718DubNz_gcoLt-RjJ5XdTnxnAfRjvhDQNF6htT94YyrHrDWOpG0xhwgC4z_SmH9MDxh4LhuqyI5PmsVk-YSiSXNLNdUZ6mLJcpNBA/s1600/unnamed+%25286%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn__61aNbuc6f74JKBXuWwbCd3EWV1fLsK0P54718DubNz_gcoLt-RjJ5XdTnxnAfRjvhDQNF6htT94YyrHrDWOpG0xhwgC4z_SmH9MDxh4LhuqyI5PmsVk-YSiSXNLNdUZ6mLJcpNBA/s400/unnamed+%25286%2529.png" /></a><span style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: white; font-size: 12.8px;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4L8XC2GVAQa3KxHYQuMzF0ujAAcvuX0umlp_1CwN_DC2BG4v6Y-FnCb6LzOWXcmbcTAM7rA5NiseZnVUrsBamOgNNHfmZT22_qvMMkWgV-HSEQl_r-8BgxfCJi7CxR-8m9Q2UeYIqmg/s400/unnamed+%25285%2529.png" style="font-size: 12.8px;" /></span></span></div>

A series of bellicose rhetoric exchange between North Korea and Donald Trump keeps raising tension in Korean Peninsula. North Korean Foreign Minister threw the first punch on Aug 7, declaring his country will “teach the U.S. a severe lesson with its nuclear strategic force.” Trump countered on Aug 8, saying “North Korea best not make any more threats to the U.S. They will be met with fire and fury the world has never seen.” The commander of North Korean Army responded on Aug 10, threatening they can fire four Hwasung-12 ICBMs over Japan to lfall 30km (19 miles) away from Guam with the final order from Kim Jung-un. Donald Trump then tweeted on Aug 11 that U.S. military plans are “locked and loaded” and ready to go “should North Korea act unwisely.” Gen.Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff met with President Moon Jae-in Seoul on Aug 14.<div>

<br />While the rest of the world is watching Korean Peninsula in worries, South Koreans are not really feeling the tension. South Koreans have lived under Kim family’s verbal threats since Korean War ended in 1953. If South Koreans cannot sleep because of Kim Jung-un’s recent bad words from his mouth, neither can Japanese because of earthquakes. My wife can be more concerned about possible Louis Vuitton store pullout from Lotte Department Store than possible North Korean ICBMs flying over Japan to Guam. The recent exchange of menacing words between Kim Jung-un and Donald Trump fits below scenes to many South Koreans.<br /><br />Regards,<br />H.S.<br /><div align="left" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">
